Engineering Intramurals @ University at Buffalo
I am always eager to help people to achieve professional and personal growth that will leave a lasting impact on their life and the world. In the first 2 years of my PhD, due to my previous education and industrial experiences, I believed that I could help undergraduate students learn applied robotics and essential soft skills. For this purpose, I joined CoE SMART as a project manager to design and build a robotic snow removal system (as an Engineering Intramural project with Prof. Andrew Olewnik). I managed and mentored more than 16 undergraduate students (from different majors) from June 2017 to May 2019. During this project, I not only helped students gain hands-on experiences on robotic and autonomous systems but also guided them to find a job or join an MS program by sharing my knowledge in those areas (and providing recommendation letters as their reference). The project was a rewarding experience and led the following outcomes:
Team members: Mech. Eng. Students: Anthony Fazzino, Yonatan Belay, Karan Shah, Patrick Biver, Keshshoth Kanagalingam, Nathan Tupper, Quadry Bello, and Stephen Boyers Comp. Sci. Students: Aniruddha Nandi, Ahshan Khan, and Hou Hei Wu Ind. Eng. Students: Madeline A. Donegan, and Daniel Mayers Elec. Eng. Students: Ping Na Li, Thanh Le, and Matthew O. Fiebelkorn STEM Youth Mentoring @ Westminster Community Charter School
I participated in volunteer work with “Science is Elementary", a partnership program between UB and Westminster Community Charter School and sponsored by National Grid, to introduce students to the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and to encourage their curiosity in the world around them. |
